Basic Sciences in Oncology Course 2008

What is the Basic Sciences in Oncology Course?

The Cancer Institute NSW is continuing to co-coordinate the Basic Sciences in Oncology Course PDF document. Adobe Acrobat required. in 2008. The course is conducted in partnership with the Faculty of Radiation Oncology, RANZCR and the Medical Oncology Group, RACP.

The multidisciplinary program aims to provide participants opportunities to engage in relevant and complementary teaching for RANZCR Part One. The course also supports clinicians and other health professionals working in oncology and associated disciplines.

What is the purpose of the course?

The Basic Sciences in Oncology Course supports current best practice and identifies core skills and competencies in oncology. Basic sciences of oncology and associated disciplines are linked to clinical practice.

What topics will be addressed?

Course topics include aspects of:

  • Anatomy
  • Clinical pharmacology
  • Communication skills training
  • Palliative care
  • Physics
  • Research and evidence based medicine
  • Radiobiology
  • Tumour biology

A Certificate of Participation will be provided at the conclusion of the course to each participant who has successfully met requirements. This includes attendance at key sessions.

Who should enrol?

The Basic Sciences in Oncology Course supports Radiation Oncology RANZCR Part One participants, advanced trainees in medical, surgical and gynaecological oncology, haematology and palliative care. Other health professionals who are either undertaking study or working within the oncology field will also benefit from participating in the course.

How will the course be run?

How much does it cost?

The Basic Sciences in Oncology Course will cost $840 (including GST). Registration fees include parking for participants at Australian Technology Park, catering and access to a range of resources. Once the Cancer Institute NSW has accepted course payment, the BSOC registration payment form PDF document. Adobe Acrobat required. will become the participant’ tax invoice.
