The Academic Chairs Program
The NSW Cancer Plan 2007-2010 acknowledges the importance of strengthening the workforce to provide services and support for cancer patients throughout the cancer journey. The establishment of an Academic Chair’s program is an important part of achieving this objective by supporting training, education, quality, capacity, and retention of the cancer workforce in NSW.
The role of the Academic Chairs is to contribute to the development of improved cancer care and outcomes for people with cancer in NSW through collaborative and multidisciplinary research and education. The Program has been created to help create stronger links between NSW universities and the clinical environment; generate a leading evidence base for cancer care; support cancer research; and, promote cancer care as an attractive field to work in for NSW health professionals.
